Seven stolen paintings worth an estimated $400,000 were recovered by federal and local authorities during a search of a home in rural northeastern Shasta County, the Sheriff’s Department said Friday.

The paintings, produced between 1870 and 1910, were seized after authorities received a tip from the San Francisco Police Department. The works had been stolen recently from the offices of Kohlberg, Kravis, Roberts and Co., an investment banking company, authorities said.

A half-ounce of methamphetamine also was recovered at the residence, the home of a man identified as Dennis Leap by the Shasta County Sheriff’s Department. Leap was in the County Jail on an unrelated charge at the time of the search.
