Close-Ups Miss Mark on Baseball Telecasts
Too many football fans are directing baseball telecasts.
For instance, on a play at the plate, television is so obsessed by filling the screen with close-up action that it rarely shows the fielder and the runner in the same shot.
I’m not saying put a camera in a blimp and leave it there. I am saying that baseball is not only a game of inches, it’s also a game of hundreds of feet. Let’s have TV camera work that delivers more than just animated baseball cards.
