Blaine McCallister, a seven-year pro seeking his first PGA Tour victory, followed his second-round 62 with a 7-under-par 63 Saturday to equal a tour scoring record and take a four-stroke lead after three rounds of the $600,000 Hardee’s golf tournament at Coal Valley, Ill.

McCallister, who shot his 62 in 100-degree temperatures Friday, had an eagle and five birdies in cloudy, cooler conditions Saturday.

McCallister’s 125 total for the middle two rounds matched the best consecutive two-round total in PGA Tour history, tying Ron Streck’s total in the last two rounds of the 1978 Texas Open.

He finished three rounds at 17-under-par 193 on the 6,606-yard Oakwood Country Club course.

Dan Forsman, who started the day tied for the lead with McCallister and Russ Cochran, fell to second place at 197 with a 67. Cochran, a southpaw, had a 69 for a 199 total.

Colleen Walker lost her five-stroke lead on the first eight holes but got four shots back in the final three holes to finish the third round of the LPGA Boston Five tournament at Danvers, Mass., four strokes ahead of Jan Stephenson.

Walker and Stephenson were tied through 15 holes at 9 under par. Then Walker, who led after each of the first two rounds, birdied the 16th and 18th holes, while Stephenson, struggling with her drives, bogeyed the 17th and 18th, the latter a 485-yard par-5 on which she hit a bunker and missed a 10-foot putt for par.

Walker, who shot a 2-under-par 70, has a 54-hole total of 11-under-par 205. Stephenson had a 69 for a 209 total.

Betsy King, who played with Walker and Stephenson in the final group, shot a 70 and was in third place at 210.
