Local News in Brief : Santa Ana : Man, 22, Shot in Head While Sitting in Truck

A 22-year-old man was shot in the head Saturday as he sat on the tailgate of a truck outside a home, police said Sunday.
The victim, Anh Hung Tran of Santa Ana, remained hospitalized Sunday in critical condition, said Sgt. Joseph Esther.
He provided the following account:
The incident occurred about 12:30 p.m. Saturday in the 300 block of South Newhope Street, where Tran and two friends sat in the back of a truck parked in a driveway.
Two assailants pulled up in a white compact car. Armed with a small-caliber handgun, the passenger got out and fired two shots in the direction of the three men. Tran was wounded by a single shot to the head.
His two friends, who were not identified by police, fled but returned a short time later to find Tran lying wounded in the truck bed.
