French Pilot Succumbs

PARIS —
A French fighter pilot died of injuries suffered when his plane crashed during a night landing on the aircraft carrier Clemenceau in the Gulf of Aden, the French Naval Ministry said.
It said Capt. Francois Barthes, 39, was attempting to land his Super Etendard fighter during training maneuvers Sunday when the plane hit the flight deck and exploded. Barthes died Monday in a hospital in Djibouti.
