Speedway Motorcycle Racer Ken Berry Dies From Injuries Suffered in Crash
Speedway motorcyclist Ken Berry died Tuesday at San Bernardino Community Hospital from head injuries suffered last Wednesday in a crash at Inland Motorcycle Speedway in Glen Helen Regional Park north of San Bernardino.
Berry, 24, had surgery to remove a blood clot Saturday, but he never gained consciousness after the crash. The fatality is the first in local speedway racing since the sport was revitalized in 1969 and only the second American fatality since Denny Pyeatt was killed in the British Speedway League match at Hackney in 1982.
Berry was a second division rider with four seasons of experience. He crashed while competing in a heat race.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Hillcrest Mortuary in Bakersfield.
