Black Education Commission Announces New Officers for 1988-’89 School Year

The Black Education Commission, one of six advisory groups to the Los Angeles City Board of Education, has announced its new officers for the 1988-’89 school year.

The new officers are Margaret Swain, chairman; Carolyn Monroe, first vice-chairman; Freddie St. Cyr, second vice-chairman; Eddie Mae Williams, recording secretary; and Sandra Miller, assistant recording secretary.

The commission also selected seven commissioners to fill two-year terms, through June, 1990: Edgar Cowan, Kimakus Johnson, Delores Myles, Doris Sims, Ella Stewart, Jacqueline Ward and Evelyn Williams.

The commission meets on the third Thursday of each month and makes recommendations and advises the board of education on the education of black students in the L.A. Unified School District. Meetings are open to the public.
