The number of new AIDS cases in Los Angeles County rose slightly in June, with 163 cases confirmed during the month, according to figures released Friday, up from the 151 cases reported in May, the county Department of Health Services said.
The June victims of acquired immune deficiency syndrome included 160 adults and three children. The higher June figure ended a two-month downturn in the number of new AIDS cases confirmed in the county.
As of June 30, the cumulative total of known AIDS cases in the county stood at 5,230, including 5,197 adults and 33 children.
The disease has accounted for 3,275 deaths, 63% of the reported cases.
Homosexual and bisexual males remained at the highest risk, with 90% of all AIDS patients in that category.
