Divers have recovered the main transmission section of a Navy helicopter that crashed during a training mission off the Golden Gate Bridge, killing eight people. A Navy statement said the section with the No. 2 engine and main rotor were taken to the Alameda Naval Air Station for inspection. “Location of the major airframe section has been completed and recovery efforts will continue until all retrievable wreckage is recovered,” it added. The MH-53E Sea Dragon crashed on July 18. The chopper had been practicing mine detection maneuvers in tandem with another copter. The bodies of the victims were not recovered.
