THE OUTDOORS : Pyramid Lake Has Surprise: Black Bass
Most summertime fishermen at Los Angeles County’s Pyramid Lake are there to catch big striped bass.
And while anglers have been doing well with the stripers--Maywood’s Fred Peterson caught a 33-pounder early in the week--a consistent black bass bite has been a pleasant surprise.
It has not been uncommon for fishermen to catch both smallmouths and largemouths. For instance, Gabriel Jellen of Van Nuys recently caught a 4-pound smallmouth, then cast again and landed a 7-pound largemouth.
