A Hawaiian Airlines jetliner en route to Honolulu with 345 people aboard made an emergency landing at Los Angeles International Airport on Thursday after a tire blew out after takeoff from Las Vegas, officials said.

The pilot of Flight 15 made a “precautionary landing” in Los Angeles at 1:40 p.m. after he declared an emergency aboard the Lockheed L-1011, Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Elly Brekke said. “The plane was not in any danger, but the pilot elected to stop to find out the problem,” she said.

No injuries were reported, but rubber was scattered across runway 25R, Brekke said. Clean-up of debris forced closure of the runway for about 30 minutes.
