Tennis Roundup : Agassi Beats Goldie, Locks Up Final Berth Against Annacone
Second-seeded Andre Agassi defeated 12th-seeded Dan Goldie, 6-3, 6-3, Saturday in the semifinals of the Volvo International tennis tournament at Stratton Mountain, Vt. In today’s final, Agassi will play Paul Annacone, who beat ninth-seeded Darren Cahill, 6-4, 6-3.
Guillermo Perez-Roldan of Argentina and Emilio Sanchez of Spain advanced to the final of the $150,000 Nabisco Grand Prix tournament at Hilversum, the Netherlands. Perez-Roldan outlasted Magnus Gustafsson of Sweden, 7-6, 2-6, 6-3, and Sanchez downed Mark Woodforde of Australia, 6-4, 6-3.
Ronald Agenor of Haiti turned back Yannick Noah of France, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, to gain the final of the Grand Prix tournament at Bordeaux, France. Agenor, who lives in Bordeaux, will face Thomas Muster of Austria, who beat countryman Horst Skoff, 4-6, 6-4, 7-5.
Steffi Graf of West Germany defeated Bettina Fulco of Argentina, 6-2, 6-3, in the $200,000 Hamburg Grand Prix and will face Bulgarian Katerina Maleeva in today’s final. Maleeva overcame Radka Zrubakova of Czechoslovakia, 2-6, 6-1, 6-1.
Nicole London of Rolling Hills Estates downed top-seeded Varalee Sureephong of Haines City, Fla., 6-3, 6-4, to win the Girls 12 National Clay Court Championship at Plantation, Fla.
