LOS ANGELES — County Sheriff’s deputies early Monday rescued a woman missing in the Santa Monica Mountains, several hours after a search team found three of her hiking companions. The searchers found Linda Bean of Santa Monica at midnight, Deputy Roger Hom said. Bean was one of 10 women who set out on a one-day hiking trip in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area about 8 a.m. Sunday, Deputy Richard Dinsmoor said. Late in the day, four of the women became exhausted and could not continue hiking, he said, while the other six hiked out of the mountains. A rescue operation using dog teams was mounted at 7:30 p.m. and by 9 p.m. three of the missing women had been found near Kanan Dume Road and Mulholland Highway.
