Local News in Brief : Club Gets a Reprieve

The owners of a controversial Mid-Wilshire area nightclub have received a temporary restraining order allowing dancing to continue at their club.
The Los Angeles City Council voted July 26 to bar dancing at the Wall Street club on Wilshire Boulevard unless the owners get a new conditional-use permit. The council also ordered the nightclub to close at midnight instead of 2 a.m. on week nights.
But the club went to court and won the order delaying implementation of the city restrictions pending a hearing in Superior Court later this month.
Charles Glenn, a co-owner of Wall Street, on Tuesday called a ban on dancing “nonsense for a nightclub.”
City officials sought the restrictions after hearing testimony from area residents bothered by late-night noise. Tom LaBonge, a deputy to Councilman John Ferraro, said the council has held 12 hearings to regulate the club since it began operating 18 months ago in the historic El Rey Theatre.
