Harcourt Brace Jovanovich Inc., trying to repay $2.9 billion in debt incurred while fighting a hostile takeover bid last year, has canceled millions of dollars in television advertising for its central Florida theme parks. The high-profile ads will disappear the middle of this month and will not return until the busy Christmas tourist season begins. Harcourt owns Orlando’s Sea World and three other Sea Worlds, plus Boardwalk and Baseball and Cypress Gardens in Polk County. Sea World’s New York ad agency said the move was a “seasonal adjustment in spending based on the gate count” at the theme parks.
