Monrovia : Rent Increase Debated

Share

Mayor Robert Bartlett has urged owners of Park Santa Anita, a mobile home park on 5th Avenue, to reconsider a recent rent increase and submit a report on the impact the park’s proposed closing would have on tenants.

Attorney Steve Andersen, who represents the park owners, has indicated that his clients want to develop the site.

About 50 mostly elderly residents of the 63-space park attended Tuesday’s City Council meeting. Tenant association President Elliot Goldyn told the council that all rents at the park will be raised to $325 beginning Oct. 1. Rents now range from $140 to $260, he said.

Andersen said rents are simply being raised to fair-market value. He told the council a report on what impact the closing will have on tenants should be ready by Sept. 1.
