The San Francisco 49ers have sent tackle Bubba Paris, who has ballooned to more than 335 pounds, to a Southern California weight-loss clinic. He became the second National Football League player in the last three weeks to go to a diet specialist.

The Chicago Bears were the first team to become concerned about the overweight condition of a player, sending William (the Refrigerator) Perry to a weight-reduction clinic after he topped 350 pounds.

Paris left the 49ers’ Rocklin, Calif., training camp Tuesday for Santa Monica and the same clinic that helped team executive R.C. Owens lose 26 pounds in 29 days last year.
