Andino Advances in Op Pro Surfing
Dino Andino of San Clemente was one of 11 qualifiers who beat seeded pros Thursday and advanced to the second round of the Op Pro Surfing Championships in Huntington Beach.
Andino outscored Richie Collins of Costa Mesa. Jeff Booth of Huntington Beach defeated Australian Graham Wilson and will surf against another Australian today, 1987 Op Pro men’s champion Barton Lynch.
Sunny Garcia of Hawaii, who finished second in last year’s Op, beat Noah Budroe of Huntington Beach.
In the women’s competition, Nea Post, 16, of Huntington Beach, qualified for the main event, which starts today. Post, the junior women’s world champion, will face Frieda Zamba, a former Assn. of Surfing Professionals world champion from Cocoa Beach, Fla.
