Quit Making Light of Baseball Fights
After reading Mike Downey’s column on fighting in baseball (July 27), I can understand why athletes sometimes hate sportswriters.
Throwing a baseball at a person’s head at 95 m.p.h. is a serious matter. It is an act that could end a player’s career or even worse, his life. I think Andre Dawson had the right to charge the mound after being beaned by Eric Show. The positive result is that Show will think twice about throwing at anyone’s head in the future.
