Local News in Brief : El Toro : Jet Noise to Increase With Training Exercise

Noise from aircraft flying from the El Toro Marine Corps Air Station will be louder than usual Saturday because of a military exercise scheduled to last most of the day.

Jets stationed at the base are scheduled to participate in the Gallant Eagle exercise, which is a joint service maneuver being conducted in the desert near Twentynine Palms.

Marine Corps officials are warning residents living near the El Toro base in the El Toro/Irvine/Tustin area to expect more aircraft noise because of the large number of jets flying out of the base between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Marine spokeswoman Peggy Cauley said El Toro-based jets are frequently called upon to participate in regional military exercises. Besides going out to the desert, she said, the jets also conduct landing practice on aircraft carriers.
