Donald R. Bronsard, president of Orange Coast College, is being treated for a mild heart attack at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach, a community college spokesman said Tuesday.

Bronsard, 49, suffered “a very minor heart attack” Saturday, said Jim Carnett, director of public information at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa.

“He was taken by his wife to the hospital and admitted after he said he felt sharp chest pains,” Carnett said. “Fortunately, it turned out to be a very minor heart attack, with minimal or no damage to the heart. We think he’ll be out of the hospital by the end of the week, and he may be able to come back to work by the time fall semester begins on Aug. 22.”
