RICHMOND, Calif. — The San Francisco Newspaper Agency will build a $45-million printing and distribution plant here, the publisher of the Chronicle and Examiner newspapers announced.
Lawrence Ingram, Newspaper Agency vice president, said the company plans to break ground within four months for the plant that will serve as the Northern California and North Bay distribution point for the two papers.
The state-of-the-art plant is expected to begin operation by summer 1990. It will employ 250 to 400 people.
The agency has budgeted $120 million to build two new printing plants and upgrade equipment at a third site. One plant already is under construction in San Francisco to replace facilities at Fifth and Mission streets.
