A coroner’s spokesman said drowning was the cause of death of a 5-year-old boy who lost consciousness while playing in 3 feet of water in a pool at a swimming camp in the hills above Brentwood.
Michael Segall of Beverly Hills, a non-swimmer, was among 25 youngsters playing in the pool at the Tumbleweed Camp Monday afternoon. Three lifeguards were at the scene, a camp spokesman said.
They applied artificial respiration and CPR, which was continued by paramedics who arrived at the scene within 15 minutes. The boy died in the emergency room at the UCLA Medical Center, a spokesman for the hospital said.
Owners of the camp sent parents a letter saying that child psychologists were brought in to help other campers deal with the death.
