Local News in Brief : Charges in Animal Case
- Share via
Animal regulation officers will seek criminal charges against an Eagle Rock woman who fled after officers discovered that she was keeping dozens of animals in rooms piled with excrement and decomposing carcasses, authorities said Thursday.
Lt. Gordon Zeller of the Los Angeles Department of Animal Regulations said his office will file 72 counts of animal cruelty against the woman, Rebecca E. Courlie, who remains at large.
Twenty seven of the animals seized--25 cats and two dogs--were in such poor health that they had to be destroyed, said Animal Regulation Department spokesman Michael E. Burns.
He said the remaining animals are being held in case they need to be used as evidence in charges against Courlie but may be available for adoption at some future date.
