About 700 people were evacuated in Azusa for two hours today as potentially explosive pressure built inside a railroad tanker loaded with 20,000 gallons of a dangerous chemical, officials said.
Hazardous materials specialists controlled the phthalic anhydride in the tank car on a track next to the Reichhold Chemical Inc. and the evacuation ended at 9:15 a.m., said Esther Witler, spokeswoman or the Los Angeles County Fire Department. One person was reported to have suffered an inhalation injury.
