The NCAA restored the football eligibility of Michigan State’s Tony Mandarich, 1987 Big Ten offensive lineman of the year, for all but the first three games, the school said.

Mandarich was ruled ineligible for the 1988 season after he applied for but later withdrew from the NFL supplemental draft.

Under the ruling, the 315-pound offensive tackle would miss the Spartans’ non-conference games at home against Rutgers Sept. 10 and Notre Sept. 17, and on the road against Florida State Sept. 24.
