WASHINGTON — The U.S. Postal Service will offer a new type of pre-stamped envelope this year, hoping to pick up some extra holiday business.
The envelope is to be produced in a new, 5-inch by 7 1/2-inch size, which officials say will accommodate many cards, invitations and similar items.
The envelopes will be pre-printed with 25-cent, first-class postage in the form of an embossed snowflake, white on a green background. It will also carry the statement “First Class” in green and “25 USA” and the legend “Holiday Greetings” printed in red.
The new envelopes, the first new size to be issued in a quarter-century, will go on sale Sept. 8 in Snowflake, Ariz., and the following day in the rest of the country.
The price will be 30 cents per envelope.
