Local News in Brief : Ante Upped in Manhunt

Share

Authorities have upped the ante in their search for a Hawthorne man accused of swindling homeowners in need of loans. Richard Griffin, who disappeared earlier this week after 66 misdemeanor counts were brought against him, now faces prosecution on 46 felony charges.

Griffin is accused of running a scam in which homeowners facing foreclosure were promised, but never received, refinancing to save their homes. The district attorney’s office Thursday charged him with 23 counts of grand theft and 23 counts of fraudulent mortgage foreclosure consultancy, all felonies.
