Dave Hill Shoots a 64 to Take 3-Stroke Lead in Senior Tournament at Syracuse
Dave Hill shot a tournament-record, 8-under-par 64 to take a three-stroke lead in the $250,000 Syracuse Senior golf tournament Saturday.
Hill said he almost didn’t play in the PGA Seniors Tour event. “I haven’t been swinging good for about five or six weeks. I’ve been tired and I’ve been bothered by a bad tooth. I was so disgusted with my play I was going to withdraw,” said the 51-year-old Hill, of Brooklyn, Mich.
“But I played well at the U.S. (Senior) Open. So, I thought I’d give Syracuse a chance.”
Saturday, Hill’s game was in top form. His round, which put him at 12-under-par 132, surpassed by a stroke the record set last year by two-time defending champion Bruce Crampton and matched Friday in the opening round by Doug Dalziel.
Dalziel was second at 135.
