Southern California Edison has weighed in as one of nearly 30 interested parties involved in the state Public Utilities Commission’s yearlong review of San Diego Gas & Electric’s planned merger with Tucson Electric Power. In documents filed with the PUC, Edison said it believes that the proposed merger could “adversely affect the public interest.” However, an Edison executive who attended the PUC’s initial hearing in San Francisco declined to describe Edison’s objections to the proposed merger. SCEcorp, the parent company of Edison, last month made a surprise, $2-billion stock-swap merger offer to SDG&E;’s board. SDG&E; has until Sept. 1 to review that offer.
