Plane Makes Safe Landing in Creek
The pilot of a Cessna 210 made a safe emergency landing Monday in Ballona Creek in Culver City after losing power while en route from Carlsbad to Santa Monica, authorities said.
The single-engine plane, piloted by George Reeder, 56, of Bakersfield, lost power about 8:30 a.m. and made a forced landing in the creek near Overland Avenue, several miles short of Santa Monica Municipal Airport, said Sgt. Dean Williams.
The plane sustained minor damage to its landing gear and propeller during the landing in the creek, which has a concrete bed and only about 6 inches of water in it, Fire Chief Stan Isbell said.
