DEL MAR — Silent Arrival made her move entering the stretch and won the $48,000 turf feature race by a head Monday at Del Mar.
Davie’s Lamb, with Fernando Toro aboard, finished second a neck in front of favored Galunpe, ridden by Russell Baze, in a field of six.
Under Chris McCarron, the 5-year-old longshot covered 1 1-16 miles of a firm course in 1:42 and earned $26,400 for the victory in the race for fillies and mares 3-years-old and up.
Sent off the 10-1 choice by bettors in a crowd of 25,851, Silent Arrival paid $22.60, $8.20 and $3.20. Davie’s Lamb returned $6 and $3.20 while Galunpe paid $2.60 to show.
Carrying 115 pounds, Silent Arrival was outrun early but challenged for the lead entering the stretch. The chestnut daughter of Silent Screen and Irish Arrival prevailed by a small margin.
Davie’s Lamb, carrying 117, stalked the leaders from third place through the three-quarter mark and lost her lead in the stretch. She could not outrun the winner in the drive. Galunpe, carrying 117, came into the stretch four-wide with the leaders but lacked the needed finish.
