“Planes, Trains and Automobiles.” Paramount. $89.95. 1987. R. Did you enjoy John Hughes matching of obnoxious guy and male victim in his recent “The Great Outdoors”? You did ? Well, here’s more of same--in a somewhat better film--from the director-writer’s ’87 output. This time John Candy was the crude dude rather than the victim, the latter part taken by Steve Martin.
“Police Academy 5: Assignment Miami Beach.” Warner. $89.95. 1988. PG. More crudity, this time in the fifth edition from this waning broad-comedy series. Bubba Smith’s present; “Bobcat” Goldthwait, though, had better things to do this time around. Warner has also re-released the previous four “Academy” films at the reduced price of $19.98. Hallelujah!
“A Month in the Country.” Lorimar. $79.95. 1987. PG. Repressed passions explode in peaceful town. British film stars Colin Firth (“Maurice”) and Natasha Richardson (“Gothic”).
“Promised Land.” Vestron. $89.98. 1988. R. Young hotshots Kiefer Sutherland and Meg Ryan star in this barely-released drama about small-town teens.
“Cop.” Paramount. $89.95. 1988. R. James Woods in violent film about detective in pursuit of yet another serial killer.
