Marine Dies Breaking Up Fight

A 26-year-old Marine died early Thursday of stab wounds in downtown Oceanside.
Police said Lance Cpl. Kenneth Edward Gian apparently was trying to break up a fight about 10:30 p.m. Friday at 3rd and Freeman streets. The brawl reportedly began when two Marines in one car bumped into another car, also containing Marines.
Gian was stabbed several times in the stomach and neck and was taken by Life Flight to Scripps Memorial Hospital-La Jolla, where he died at 12:20 a.m.
Oceanside police were seeking a suspect Thursday night.
