Reid Anderson, a Canadian dancer and choreographer who helped found Ballet British Columbia, was named artistic director Friday of the National Ballet of Canada. Anderson, 39, will succeed co-artistic directors Valerie Wilder and Lyn Wallis in January, 1990. Anderson noted that Erik Bruhn, who led the company from 1983 until his death in 1986, added modern works to the National Ballet’s classical repertoire. “I want to continue to build choreographers. I want a choreographic signature coupled with unbelievable classical technique,” said Anderson, who got his start as a principal dancer with the Stuttgart (West Germany) Ballet.
