A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Special Weapons Team was in a standoff late Tuesday with a Saugus man who barricaded himself in his home after firing a shot at his wife and child.

The incident began about 5:30 p.m. when the unidentified gunman fired a rifle shot at his wife and child as they drove away from their residence in the 30200 block of Bouquet Canyon Road in Saugus, said Sheriff’s Deputy Gabe Ramirez. Neither the woman nor the child were hit, he said.

Ramirez would not identify those involved.

A Special Weapons Team was called, Ramirez said, after repeated attempts by deputies in the Santa Clarita station to reach the man by phone had failed. The team surrounded the house.
