Living Lawnmowers Get Sack for Drifting Away

CHERRYVALE, Kan. —
The city’s goats were doing their job all right, but just couldn’t seem to stay on the job site.
City commissioners voted this week to sell three goats who have acted since July as living lawnmowers on grass near the city’s sewage treatment plant.
Mayor John Littell said the goats did their job: “They were eating the grass.” But the fence surrounding the area couldn’t contain the animals. When it is repaired next summer, Littell said, the city may purchase new goats.
