The U.S. Olympic men’s basketball team, led by Hersey Hawkins, Danny Manning and David Robinson, and coached by John Thompson, will play Athletes in Action at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Cal State Fullerton’s Titan Gym, the school said Wednesday.

The Olympic team has been on an exhibition tour against National Basketball Assn. players. Wednesday night at Denver, point guard Charles E. Smith scored 20 points, including a three-point play with 23 seconds left in overtime, to give the U.S. team a 105-103 victory. The Olympians’ record against NBA competition is now 6-1.

Athletes in Action, playing their season opener, include Lorenzo Romar, who played for four years with the Golden State Warriors and the Milwaukee Bucks; Michael Wiley, formerly of Cal State Long Beach, and Kevin Henderson, formerly of Cal State Fullerton, who was with the Cleveland Cavaliers last season.

A game Saturday in Las Vegas against NBA players was to have been the final exhibition before the U.S. team left for Seoul and the Olympic Games Sept. 17-Oct. 2. But William Wall, executive director of the Amateur Basketball Assn. of the United States, the sport’s governing body, contacted Fullerton athletic officials Monday, and an agreement was reached Tuesday.
