Forecasters Offer No Relief From Heat Over Weekend

San Diegans may have to seek a few more creative ways to beat the heat. High temperatures and high humidity are expected to continue through Monday, the National Weather Service said.

Temperatures and humidity aren’t the only high figures, however. Friday’s electricity consumption hit an all-time high, as many workers sought the air-conditioned havens of their offices.

“We broke this summer’s peak demand record of 2,533 megawatts by 35 megawatts,” San Diego Gas & Electric spokesman Fred Vaughn said Friday. “At 2 p.m. today, we peaked out at 2,568 megawatts. This is mostly the result of air conditioning. With an ugly, humid day like today, the offices really poured on the juice.”

Temperatures along the coast are expected to remain much the same as they have the last few days, forecaster Richard Stitt said. Highs today and Sunday ranging from 78 to 84 degrees, with lows of 67 to 72, are forecast.

The surf will be from 2 to 3 feet. The ocean temperature will be 67 degrees.

Inland highs of 87 to 97 are predicted for the weekend. Night lows are expected to range from 65 to 71.

Afternoon lightning and thunderstorms in the mountains are expected to continue through the weekend, Stitt said. A flash-flood advisory may be put into effect.

Mountain highs will remain from 77 to 85 degrees today and Sunday. Lows will be between 60 and 68.

Partial cloudiness with scattered thundershowers will play across desert skies this weekend. Daytime highs will be from 98 to 106 degrees, night lows from 78 to 86.
