A Doggone Shame

“There’s a Colorful Side to the Blue Ridge Parkway” by Harry Basch (Aug. 14) is a great article, full of wonderful, helpful information. However, it is totally missing a vital piece: North Carolina has a state law which prohibits any motel within its borders from accepting guests who may have with them the family dog.

We got stuck in that state two years ago after traveling the Blue Ridge for almost all day. When we dropped down to get a motel about 5 p.m. we were refused accommodations at five motels. We had to travel on to Virginia before we were accepted with our medium-size, very friendly fox terrier.

For animal owners, the North Carolina law is a genuine disaster.
