A 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of felony drunk driving and manslaughter after he drove the wrong way on the San Diego Freeway early Sunday morning, colliding with three cars and killing one person, the California Highway Patrol said.

Primitivo T. Delgado of Westminster was booked at Orange County Jail after being treated at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital & Medical Center and released, CHP Officer Paul Leversen said.

A coroner’s official identified the victim as David M. Keefe, 46, of Seal Beach.

Leversen said Delgado was driving south in the fast lane on the northbound side of the San Diego Freeway, south of Bushard Street in Fountain Valley about 3:10 a.m. Delgado was traveling about 75 to 80 m.p.h., he said.

Delgado’s vehicle crashed head-on with the victim’s Volkswagen, he said. Delgado also sideswiped a Toyota van and damaged a Ford Mustang, he said. It was not clear whether the other drivers were injured.

It was not immediately known where Delgado entered the wrong side of the freeway or how far he traveled, Leversen said.

Delgado was driving with a suspended driver’s license, Leversen said, adding that the reason for the suspension was not immediately known.
