The first tribute to Cary Grant since his death in 1986 will be held Oct. 19 as a benefit for the Princess Grace Foundation, where Merv Griffin will emcee and Sammy Davis Jr. and Liza Minnelli will perform. Grant’s family OKd the tribute in November. “Barbara and Jennifer Grant didn’t want one before because Cary didn’t want one. He didn’t want all that hoopla. He wanted people just to move along in life,” says Judy Quine, who is co-chairing the tribute. “But Cary was a trustee of the foundation, and he was close to Princess Grace, and (his family) thought the time was right to hold a tribute.” Warren Beatty, Michael Caine, Gregory Peck, Frank Sinatra, James Stewart and Robert Wagner will be attending the benefit, which is being held at the Beverly Hilton. Officials are expecting to raise about $1 million at the $1,000-a-ticket event.
