San Francisco police arrested a hotel manager on a charge of refusing to rent a room to a blind man and his dog. The Beverly Plaza Hotel manager was taken to a precinct house, cited on a misdemeanor count and released for appearance in court later. The manager’s name was not released. Policeman Joe Weatherman reported that Jeff Waaler, a Chicago man who has been sightless since infancy, complained that he, his guide dog and his girlfriend were refused accommodations. Weatherman said both parties, Waaler and the manager, called police--Waaler to have the anti-discrimination laws confirmed, the manager to have Waaler removed from the hotel. Waaler and party were not left out in the street, however. Officer Weatherman called the Four Seasons Clift Hotel, one of the finest in the city, which agreed to take in Waaler, dog and girlfriend at the same price the Beverly Plaza would have charged.
