Rout of Florida State Pushes Miami to No. 1
The Miami Hurricanes, college football’s defending national champions, regained the No. 1 ranking Monday.
Saturday night’s 31-0 trouncing of Florida State, the preseason No. 1 team, vaulted Miami from sixth place to first. Nebraska remained No. 2, and Florida State fell to 10th. Texas and Washington moved into the top 20 without playing yet, and No. 11 Texas A&M; and No. 18 Tennessee fell out.
Clemson climbed from fourth to third, and Oklahoma, which opens its season this week, slipped from third to fourth. UCLA held on to fifth place, and USC jumped from eighth to sixth.
The remainder of the top 10 is Auburn, Georgia and Michigan.
The second 10 consists of Louisiana State, West Virginia, Notre Dame, Alabama, Michigan State, South Carolina, Iowa, Penn State, Texas and Washington.
