The bomb-sniffing dog whose nostrils give President Reagan’s luggage the once-over has been retired, but the frisky German shepherd with Badge No. 513 still longs for the hunt. Eight-year-old Arno, the first canine to serve with the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department, now nips at flies and relaxes at the rural home of Deputy Andrew Stanley. “We hated to see him go,” Sgt. Eric George said. “But he’s got freedom now.” Arno was retired because he has an incurable spinal disorder, George said. “He’s undergone two surgeries, but we are worried now that he could injure himself where it might paralyze him.”
