Ocean Dumping
On Aug. 26 (Metro) you showed a photograph of hundreds of assorted and floating plastic containers bobbing around in the local Ballona Creek and then floating out to the ocean. At the same time, we have been swamped with dozens of articles about the poor fish and other marine species that swallow or become entangled in these same plastic bottles and fast-food containers that in turn cause premature deaths. What is wrong with our society? What is being done? Are we headed the same way as ancient Rome?
