Lemon Grove Official Daniel Kunkel Dies
Lemon Grove City Councilman Daniel Kunkel collapsed and died Friday, the victim of advanced heart disease, the San Diego County coroner’s office said.
Kunkel, 51, is survived by his wife, Heather, his son, Mark, and his daughter, Danette Karnes, all of Lemon Grove.
Kunkel was elected to the Lemon Grove City Council in 1986. He was a long-time employee of the San Diego Gas & Electric Co. but ran a private contracting business in recent years.
Kunkel was on the job Friday when he was stricken, a coroner’s spokeswoman said. He was pronounced dead at 3:16 p.m. at Chula Vista Community Hospital.
