Big doings at ABC this week. ABC Entertainment talent chief Gary Pudney, a veteran of more than 20 years with the network, has requested release from his contract “to pursue new opportunities outside the company,” the Washington Post reported. He is expected to work out a consulting deal with the company on his departure. And Dennis Kane, formerly in charge of the National Geographic TV specials, has been named president of a new company within Capital Cities/ABC that will produce and distribute nonfiction films for the network and for other domestic and foreign markets, including cable, syndication and home video. The company will be called ABC/Kane Productions International.
