Rep. Jack Kemp (R-N.Y.), whose presidential campaign ended after a poor showing in the early primaries, will join the Heritage Foundation when his House term expires in January, the foundation’s president said Tuesday.

Kemp, 53, had announced earlier this year he would not seek reelection to the House so he could campaign for the Republican presidential nomination.

Heritage Foundation President Edwin Feulner said in Washington that Kemp would join the conservative research group as a distinguished fellow, participating in policy forums and frequently returning to his old workplace, Capitol Hill, to testify as an expert witness.
