Motorists Urged to Avoid Ventura Freeway

For the second consecutive weekend, state Department of Transportation officials urged motorists traveling in the San Fernando Valley to avoid the eastbound Ventura Freeway in the early morning and late evening today and Sunday because of road construction.

Caltrans officials said work on the Fallbrook Avenue and Canoga Avenue bridges will tie up traffic during the weekend. The work is part of the freeway widening and rehabilitation scheduled to take 16 months.

Only one lane between the Parkway Calabasas and Canoga Avenue bridges will be open until 9 a.m. today and again from midnight to 11 a.m. Sunday. The Mulholland Drive, Ventura Boulevard, Topanga Canyon Boulevard and Canoga Avenue on-ramps will be closed during those times.

Motorists can exit at Parkway Calabasas or Mulholland Drive and follow an alternate route to the De Soto Avenue on-ramp.
